Best Movie Soundtrack Albums on Vinyl of All Time

It’s impossible to do without great music, which is why so many films have iconic soundtracks. Without the Do the Right Thing soundtrack, Radio Raheem may not sound as menacing or Pulp Fiction would be a whole lot less interesting. Super Fly really wouldn’t be half of what it was without Curtis Mayfield’s soulful vocals and gritty guitar riffs. Throughout film history, songs add life to struggles, majesty to landscapes and depth to heroes and villains. When sound meets sight on screen, we can see a level of transcendence that most media experiences just don’t provide.

I’m so excited to recommend today’s vinyl pick-up; they’re scored by the Guinness Book of World Records!” Movie soundtrack albums! I really love movies. Here on the site we’ve also been looking at projectors you could buy too. I’m excited. Here we’re looking at both movies and music. Something that gets me very excited.

Before we start there are a couple of things I do want to address with you guys. One is that there is a difference between a movie soundtrack and a movie score. An album of the music used in the movie that is a great example of this thing making work easier.

However, you will not find the likes of “Hooked On A Feeling” which was prominently featured on this album as it is used as a score only. Many movies these days are released in both film and sound as well as music. While some albums only have the film score on them, it is helpful to be aware of anything that has both.

Top Movie Soundtrack Albums on Vinyl

Today, we discuss soundtracks. These are collections of songs that have been used in films and usually have vocals and lyrics. They’re usually compilations by multiple artists as well.

1. The Transformers: The Movie

“The Transformers: The Movie” was the first movie I ever saw in the theater, and it is still one of my favorites to this day. (I am also dead serious by the way). This album was what inspired me to make this best sounding movie soundtrack albums on vinyl list! This album is amazing and not just because the songs are great, but also because of the impact it leaves in your head.

This is the perfect song for this list. I haven’t heard much from Stan Bush in a while, but I remember him from when he was doing that song with Michael Jackson. That’s just the tip of the iceberg for this album! While this has been the most famous song from the movie, I honestly think that Stan Bush’s Dare is much better.

The cover art for this album is amazing and I will probably buy this again every time it releases. I just pre-ordered The Transformers: The Movie 35th Anniversary – Zavvi Exclusive 4K Ultra HD Limited Collectors Edition, so this is an album I am very familiar with.

I usually listen to it when I go to the gym. It has a great beat and helps get me pumped up for my workout. This is an amazing soundtrack and it is always worth listening to. Even if you hate Transformers, this is still a must buy for your collection.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Deluxe Vinyl Edition

I’ll admit, adding Guardians of the Galaxy on our best sounding movie soundtrack albums list is a bit of a cheat. This is a special release that as well as containing Guardians of the Galaxy includes a CD of the movie’s score. It also contains an “Awesome Mix Vol 1” CD containing Soundgarden’s “Mainstream Special Blend”, The Beatles’ “White Album” and many more classics. This album is awesome and looks great on the shelf.

I like it a lot and have been playing it while I write this. It’s got some classics from the 70s too, like that oldie-but-goodie, Hooked On A Feeling. For me, it is I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 that makes me smile when I think of this soundtrack as who can forget little Groot dancing while trying not to be seen by Drax?

I would like to add that at Christmastime my wife got me “The Art of Guardians of the Galaxy,” which is tough to find these days, and the “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”. The Art of the Movie has some great artbooks and I love to listen to the movie soundtracks including Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol.

3. Labyrinth

I adore the film ‘Labyrinth,’ but this album is on the list of nearly 15,000 other albums we’re considering for vinyl release. My wife would probably have left me if I hadn’t submitted this to our list! It’s an excellent soundtrack too. One of my favorite albums is the Labyrinth Soundtrack because the album cover looks like a movie poster.

I always think that’s very cool. This tremendous movie features David Bowie performing in a legendary role. I could not conceive of an actor who could play Jareth the way that he did. This album is pure fun to listen to. Not only does it have a great song that I would include in my top ten favorite movie songs, but there are so many other tracks here worth listening to!

We often play one of these albums during the holidays in our house. It always puts a smile on my wife’s face and makes her nostalgic for the movie we might watch together. I’m excited for the possible re-release of this album. I already have a copy though the price is high, but getting it back and reselling will be worth it!

4. Rock of Ages

I loved Rock of Ages so much that I think it’s my favorite show I’ve ever seen on stage. It was awesome! The wife and I saw it in London a few years back and this guy called Shayne Ward was playing the role of Stacy Jaxx (played by Tom Cruise in the movie) and before the show, I was sure he was going to be terrible, but let me tell you this dude rocked!

Those are some good 80s songs, aren’t they? Ya know, the kind of 80s songs that I grew up with and now I rarely hear on the radio. There are so many versions of these classic rock songs in this soundtrack that it’s amazing! Tom Cruise is awesome and I think that it sucks that he Julian Hough don’t do the song together anymore.

Another fun song on here is “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Catherine Zeta Jones. This soundtrack is lots of fun and I enjoy most original songs on it by their original artists.

5. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

We covered Spider Man movies and soundtracks in one of our recent articles, so hearing this album come up on the list made me want to write about it again. My son’s love that soundtrack, so it was an easy choice for us to pick this one! I’m not the biggest rap fan. I like some songs, but for the most part, I listen to 90s and early 00s era music.

My son and I watched the new movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (which was amazing by the way). The soundtrack used in this movie was very fitting and directly related to each character and situation. I also want to add that the album is awesome and very eye-catching. However, some people on Amazon said that when they got it, this was just a regular album and not a special one like the case on Amazon sells. It’s something to watch out for.”

The first song that you really hear is “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee, and while the music video for this song is cool, the scene in the movie was great. I enjoy a lot of scenes in superhero movies. This is a fantastic album. In fact, it’s the only modern hip-hop release I would buy and maybe even that of the sequel, too. I just saw the movie Guardians of the Galaxy and had a great time.

I liked how the music matched each scene in such a creative way. While I was watching the movie, I also listened to the soundtrack which was made by Harry Gregson-Williams. The price for this book is only 20 dollars, and you will fully understand the value of it if you have the album it belongs to. As one of the few people who have all 3 albums, I can certainly vouch for this product.

6. Forrest Gump

The Forrest Gump Soundtrack is a recent addition to my collection. I borrowed the new 4K version of the movie from Amazon last week and enjoyed watching it.  It had been years since I watched it so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was great! I forget how good the movie was and the soundtrack is awesome.

With songs taken from different parts of Forrest’s life, the soundtrack for this movie added a real sense of authenticity that is difficult to find anywhere else. This soundtrack is very, very special and I would definitely argue that it’s one of the better-rated movies out there!

My favorite song on this album is “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival because it’s included when Forrest and Bubba are arriving for their tour of Vietnam.

With Elvis, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more there are some of the greatest American artists and bands of all time. I’m glad that I didn’t overspend on the vinyl record of the movie – it wasn’t too expensive.

7. Dirty Dancing

I’m not sure how you could know that I love The Dirty Dancing soundtrack. I know nothing about this and have never seen the movie before. I love movies that I’ve watched as a kid and I wanted to check this one out just because my mom and sister loved it. I watched the movie with my wife the other night and she loved it! I’m happy because a lot of people are starting to follow in her footsteps and get their first Funko.

I’ve watched this movie a lot. I remember last year and the experience was so nostalgic that I was able to make out my niece’s handprint in the dust on the TV screen. The soundtrack for Dirty Dancing is perfect. The ballad from the movie, She’s Like The Wind by Patrick Swayze, is great!

Oh no, we lost him way too soon 🙁 We loved that man and he was truly talented. This album is such a gem and I feel like it would’ve provided your soundtracks with the best possible soundtrack for any movie you try to watch. One thing I want to mention about this is that Netflix did a series called The Movies That Made Us and it is fantastic! Some people are able to appreciate a movie more heavily when the soundtrack is great.

8. The Greatest Showman

Hugh Jackman has been passionate about acting since the early 1990s, and it’s been great to see him close out his career with movies like The Greatest Showman (I was already a big fan of him from one of his earlier works). It wasn’t until this new movie that I realized how talented and amazing he was.

A list of favorite movie soundtrack albums can’t be done properly without including the soundtrack of The Greatest Showman  on it! My favorite song on this album is The Other Side by Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. I love this song and movie scene. They have fantastic chemistry and it not just my favorite from the film, but also my favorite song from that album.

I always put this album on when I listen to it. It’s one of my favorites and I even have the CD in my car so I can listen to it with peace of mind. I also want to take a moment to mention another fantastic album that I just heard, The Greatest Showman Reimagined.

This features songs from the movie sung by other artists. My favorite track is one I’m not familiar with- A Million Dreams, but having it sung by a different artist takes me back to when I was knee-deep in Disney movies and learning all about my favorite boyfirends!

9. The Lost Boys

“The Lost Boys” is an incredible movie, but I am still waiting for them to release it on 4K. After all this is a soundtrack album, not the film itself. So what’s taking so long? That said, the cover for “The Lost Boys” Soundtrack is really cool. I like the way it looks. It’s not trying too hard, so it seems casual and cool. Plus, its logo reminds me of the movie and then a list of artists in blood is eye-catching.

There is a concert that I want to go to but somehow I haven’t found time. One of the most memorable songs is “I Still Believe” by Tim Cappello which has a kick-ass saxophone solo. The main theme from the movie, Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMann captures the movie perfectly!

I am really enjoying the songs on this album. They fit the vibe and style of the movie perfectly, and I hope that we get new versions with fancy records, jackets, etc. in the future!

10. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack is an amazing gem and has a lot of potential. It’s definitely one to watch and support! I enjoyed the books and think that they did a good job with the movie too. This is a great album to have in your collection as it comes on three colored discs which are very cool and collectible. The actors have a rich and cultural background that helped create the punk rock soundtrack that this movie has. These artists bring their story to life in this album very well.
